Born by the River
Andrew and Jodi, the founders of Calm Waters, met while leading young adventurers on multi-day river trips, where quiet campfire coffee in the early mornings became their shared ritual. That mutual passion for slowing down, appreciating the good things in life, and loving those around them is the essence from which Calm Waters was born.
In a leap of faith, Jodi and Andrew made the move to the small town of Bristol, PA in the Fall of 2013. With the support of family, friends, and the local community they started roasting in 2014, and officially opened the doors to their first shop in 2015.
But as with many startups, the collaboration between cafe and community revealed new opportunities and insights at each turn. A coffee shop is afterall, a living structure that evolves with time, solidifying the vision and mission while finding new expressions for coffee culture.
In 2018, Jeremy joined the company with all of the bright-eyed ambition of someone who liked coffee too much and knew far too little. But his addition began to move Calm Waters in small yet tangible ways. The deep relationship between Andrew, Jodi and Jeremy fed the evolution of Calm Waters.
In 2022, the resulting momentum led to the opening of a production facility in Bristol, and a second cafe in Newtown, PA.
Today, Calm Waters is still grounded on one simple idea “people matter”. How that gets expressed, from how coffees are sourced to how the customer experience is reimagined, is always changing. By starting with the irrevocable significance of people, they infuse great moments into their community by crafting great coffee.

What comes to mind when you hear “calm waters” is probably pretty darn close to what it’s all about for us at CWCR. It differs from person to person, but at the end of the day, our core mission is simple and wholly inclusive: love yourself, love others. The ways we can pursue this within ourselves and within our communities are endless. We find a lot of power in the space that a coffee shop creates for people, and the types of moments an intentionally crafted cup of coffee invites you into.
